Peter Baxter: Historian, Author and Wine Enthusiast

Retired historian, memoirist, world traveler, author (here is a selection of my books and publications), and, of course, wine, beer, and whiskey enthusiast, I have been a resident of the Willamette Valley for nearly twenty years. My origins are British, although I lived and worked in various parts of Africa for most of my life before I arrived in the United States. 

My interest in wine was stimulated by frequent visits to the Cape Province of South Africa, another of the great wine regions of the world. Since my retirement, I have been exploring, and enjoying, the extraordinary wine country of the Willamette Valley. This is a region of fascinating history and culture, and perhaps one of the most unusual and vibrant wine regions of the world. 

Exploring wine is a never-ending journey, and so much of the pleasure of exploration lies in good company, conversation, and fellowship. I would be delighted to show you around the Valley, share a little of what I have learned, and help design a trip taking in the best, the most interesting, and perhaps some of the more obscure venues in the Valley.
